7 Simple Foods that Improve Gut Health

7 Simple Foods that Improve Gut Health

Your gut is a huge part of your digestive system which without ensuring it is in the best physical condition could end up causing you serious health issues later in life. There are many different foods that are considered healthy for the gut but there are just as many that are known for their inflammatory effect which should be avoided if you are particularly health-conscious of this area of your body. Maintaining a healthy and balanced diet and ensuring that the foods you are eating are not going to damage your gut or cause any health issues for you is the best way that you can improve your gut health.

Salads

If you are experiencing issues within your gut then it may be the case that you can only stomach smaller meals that are small and light to avoid irritating anything further. A simple salad using fresh and light ingredients such as lettuce, cucumber, and peppers could be just what you need to help settle your stomach and provide you with a meal that is going to leave you feeling fulfilled without any discomfort or further inflammation.

Blueberries

Blueberries are a very versatile fruit that is perfect on their own as a small snack or as an accompaniment to a larger meal, they are full of natural sugars that are much healthier for the body and your gut than the processed sweet snacks that you can buy. The great thing about blueberries also is that they are packed with healthy nutrients and antioxidants that can help balance your gut and reduce the risk of contracting any further health issues within your gut later on in your life, simply add a few berries into your breakfast in the morning or why not try making your own refreshing blueberry smoothie.

Pasta

When you are experiencing issues with your gut and digestive system you may be looking at meals that will fill you up for a long time so that you can give your gut the required rest it needs to heal. A filling dish of pasta could be just what you need to give you plenty of long-lasting energy to help you get through the day and avoid unnecessary inflammation by eating on a more regular basis. If your stomach is going through a particularly bad phase you could have a bowl of dry pasta to help dry out your stomach and keep your seca barriga forte whilst it goes through the healing process.

Porridge

Much like pasta, porridge would be a great meal to have when you need something soothing but filling to keep you going through your busy days. This meal is a great breakfast which will set you up for a long time before you need to have another meal, if you are having gut issues you could also try adding some of your favorite fruits to add some sweetness with things like blueberries also containing plenty of antioxidants being a  great choice.

Toast

It is a common meal for when you are ill to eat toast to ensure you are not going to make things worse by neglecting yourself of food even when you are not in the mood to eat. Toast is a quick staple that many of us enjoy on an almost daily basis and it’s reliable as being something that you can eat when you are having gut trouble that affects your appetite. I would recommend that you avoid adding anything too harsh in terms of toppings as foods that are high in sugar or salt could worsen your gut health.

Avocado

Avocado is another very versatile ingredient that can be implemented within a variety of different meals, it contains plenty of healthy vitamins and minerals which will help maintain your body and your gut health. The great thing about avocado is that whilst its flavor remains pretty subtle it can be enhanced using some of your favorite seasonings and sauces to create a unique dish each time. This healthy ingredient will do you a lot of good so the fact that you can switch things up to maintain your interest is a great factor.

Hummus

The final food on this list that could really help improve your gut health and encourage the full healing from any issues in this area, hummus is very easy to prepare and if you make your own you are fully aware of what is in it rather than buying a preservative-filled option form the supermarket. The central ingredient in hummus is chickpeas and these are very naturally healthy for the body and gut, with all of their nutrients and how easy it is to make by simply combining with oil and blending there is no reason why you shouldn’t give it a try.

What You Need For A Perfect Family Picnic

What You Need For A Perfect Family Picnic

Going on a family picnic always seems like a good idea, but without proper preparation what started as an opportunity to spend quality time with your loved ones can easily turn into a disaster. Below are some key items to remember to bring to help you and your family have the best time on your picnic.

Cooler

One of the most important items to remember for your picnic would have to be a cooler of some sort, particularly when the weather is hot you are going to want to take the necessary precautions to properly store your food. Coolers are a great investment as they are suitable for a wide range of different events from picnics to festivals, if you are struggling to find one that suits your needs then you can find a wide selection of wheeled coolers here.

Food

It goes without saying that you are going to need food in order for you to have an enjoyable picnic, but the types of food you should take is down to personal preference and the kinds of facilities that are available at your chosen picnic location. Easy to eat foods would be ideal and you should definitely think about taking foods that don’t need to be warmed up, foods that would be great include items like sausage rolls, sandwiches, salads, and pre-packaged snacks.

Utensils

One of the most often forgotten items to be brought on a picnic is eating utensils and cutlery, if you plan on going on regular picnics it may be a good idea to invest in a picnic hamper, or even buying a picnic dedicated cutlery set. Not everyone enjoys eating with their hands and food like salads or pasta will definitely require something to eat with so it would definitely be a good purchase.

Summer Treats: How to Make Your own Ice-cream

Summer Treats: How to Make Your own Ice-cream

With summer fast approaching, nice cold ice cream is going to help a lot of people with beating the heat over the next few months, however, with high demand and the cost of sweet treats like ice cream at an all-time high, you may be wondering how to make your own favorite flavor of ice cream within the confines of you own home. The process is easy and can be ready in as little as a few hours, so you don’t have to worry about waiting a long time to enjoy a cold ice cream. You can either make ice cream by hand or by machine, but since most machines come with instructions for use, I will be showing you how to make fresh dairy ice cream by hand.

Before you begin there is a list of ingredients you will need :

  • Cream
  • Sugar
  • Yogurt
  • Flavorings/toppings of your choice

Preparation

Sticking to a ratio of two parts yogurt and one part cream, combine your dairy products in a large mixing bowl, add the sugar and stir until the sugar has dissolved and your mixture is smooth. Depending on the flavorings you choose for your ice cream, any liquid flavorings should be added now and stirred in until the mixture is an even color, you could use melted chocolate, honey, pureed fruits or even syrup flavorings.

Combine Ingredients

Once your liquid mix is prepared, now is the time to add any extras you desire, as you are making your own ice cream you can choose whatever you want to add into the mix. The weirder the better, and don’t worry about going overboard with your favorite fruit, biscuit, or broken up a chocolate bar. For even distribution, I would break your toppings into smaller pieces and add three quarters to the liquid mix and save the rest for the top. Once combined pour your ice cream mix into containers and put them into the freezer.

Freeze

You will need to freeze your ice cream on the highest possible setting for at least two hours, keep checking in on the mixture to ensure it is thoroughly set. In order to get a light and creamy texture, you will have to churn the ice cream by hand every half an hour. This process stops the ice cream from becoming a solid frozen block and retains its creamy texture. Simply take the container out of the freezer and give your ice cream a good stir, return it to the freezer once you have finished.

Serve

After a few hours, the ice cream should be ready to serve, take your ice cream scoop, and serve yourself a generous portion, ensure you get plenty of topping and enjoy. Eat from a dish or waffle cone and serve with extra toppings or sauces of your choice. With summer just around the corner, now is the time to start filling your freezer with delicious homemade ice cream suitable for all of your family. I can’t think of anything better than being able to customize your own favorite flavors, to enjoy under the warmth of the sun.

If you are feeling generous, a great serving suggestion would be to turn your ice cream into a homemade milkshake, simply take ice from your ice machine (the sonic ice maker is a good choice) or ice cube tray and put it in a large glass. Take a glass of milk and a scoop or two of your ice cream and put it in a blender, blend the mixture thoroughly for a delicious creamy milkshake made completely from scratch.

The Basic Guide to Starting your Own Vegetable Garden

The Basic Guide to Starting your Own Vegetable Garden

Growing your own fruit and vegetables is both environmentally friendly and cost-effective, having your own supply of fresh, organic, homegrown produce allows you to create nutritious and tasty meals for you and your family to enjoy. The sense of achievement that comes with nurturing a plant into something you can eat is second to none and it can turn into a very relaxing hobby. Getting started in growing your own produce may seem daunting but it really isn’t anything to worry about and it can be done pretty easily regardless of how much space you have or how experienced you are, here are a few simple ways you can start on the road to producing some tasty vegetables relatively easily and with little intrusion to your day to day life.

Preparing Your Garden

The initial preparation of the area you wish to grow in is vital to being successful in plentiful crop harvest, the soil you use and the placement of your plants will have a direct effect on whether or not your vegetables will grow successfully. Depending on the amount of space you have and its terrain will influence the type of vegetable growing you will be able to do if you are thinking about growing in pots you will need compost and fertilizer in order to turn your small space into a suitable environment. For those of you who are lucky enough to find a larger area to grow such as an allotment or garden then the ground will have to be prepared sufficiently, trees are a particular issue as they have widely spread roots that can make vegetable growing difficult. However, tree loppers in Perth are there to help make the process easier and get you started with growing your own produce.

Choosing What to Grow

It is important you choose the most suitable vegetables to grow that fit your lifestyle if you are often busy with work or other responsibilities I would recommend you grow things that require little maintenance so you don’t inadvertently neglect their growth. Things like potatoes don’t require as much tending to as produce like peas and beans whose plants must be watered and trimmed regularly to get the most from them. As well as making sure you can maintain the plants you grow they must also be suitable for your growing space, larger-scale plants like pumpkins and squashes need more space to grow and wouldn’t be suitable for smaller spaces or pots.

Maintaining Your Produce

As previously mentioned you need to be sure that the vegetables you grow are manageable for your lifestyle, in terms of what you need to nurture your produce effectively a gardening starter kit would be a cheap and useful investment. A trowel, rake, and garden shears are essential particularly with vegetables like beans and carrots that benefit from being trimmed to encourage them to grow to a much larger scale.

Harvesting

After all of your hard work, one of the best feelings would have to be when you finally see some reward in the form of fresh and tasty vegetables. Following the correct procedures, you should begin to see some successfully homegrown vegetables in as little as months however, it doesn’t stop there because how you harvest your produce has an effect on how likely it is for the plant to produce more vegetables year after year. Taking care to preserve the actual plant when you harvest will make it more likely for more produce to appear again, allowing you to live a very sustainable lifestyle.

Is a Smoothie Based Diet Right for You?

Is a Smoothie Based Diet Right for You?

Approaching a new diet can be daunting. With so many different sources telling you what you should and shouldn’t eat, and when you should or shouldn’t eat it, it can be nearly impossible to narrow down your choices. And it can be easy to be drawn towards some of the easier, often tastier diet plans. This is where we introduce the Smooth Diet. The general idea of a smoothie based diet is to get all the necessary nutrients and vitamins your body needs through smoothies. And there are hundreds of fantastic and creative smoothie recipes out there. But is a smoothie based diet right for you? Below we are going to examine the pros and cons of a smoothie based diet.

Pros

A smoothie based diet is a fantastic way to lose weight, stay hydrated and get creative in the kitchen. The biggest pro to a smoothie based diet is the ease of access to it. Smoothies are simple to make and can be made with a wide variety of ingredients. Working fantastically with fresh fruit or veg, and able to be spiced up flavour wise with ice-cream or other treats, there is always something to satisfy you.

Cons

As with any diet, before you start you need to understand your nutritional needs and how the body works. Doing research on websites such as Sunce Fit will get you clued up. A smoothie based diet, like any diet, has its risks. You need to make sure you aren’t exerting more energy than you are gaining from it. Smoothies are not designed to replenish the body after intense workouts or heavy labour. They help, but not alone! There are those who argue smoothies should only be a supplement into a diet, rather than becoming the diet. You need to make sure you are in a healthy enough position before starting.

5 Perfect Cocktails for Your Next Picnic

5 Perfect Cocktails for Your Next Picnic

As we all know, cocktails make any social events a little better. Nothing is better than unwinding with your friends while sipping some fruity drinks. The same can be said for a picnic, especially if you’re heading out to your local park on a sunny day. Before you head out on your alcohol filled picnic you should prepare slightly, as we know this time of year fields can be flooded with layers of fallen leaves. To make sure you have a good spot to sit in, you should take a handheld blower for clearing leaves. Here are 5 Perfect Cocktails that are worth trying for your next picnic.

1- The Kitchen Sink

Sometimes picnics can be last minute and so you may forget to guy the ingredients for a nice fruity cocktail. The kitchen sink is just a combination of any alcohol that you have to hand, we recommend excluding beers like lager as they will not make your drink taste great. We recommend just taking some spirits and whatever juice you have in and see what happens.

2- Mojito

This is the perfect summer drink and is arguably one of the most accessible drinks to buy from your local stores.  It’s a refreshing mix of white rum and mint and will be a delicious drink to enjoy in the hot sun.

3-  Gin and Tonic

This is one of the top picks because of how easy it is to make. All you need is a bottle of gin and a bottle of tonic water and you have hours of flowing drinks, sometimes nothing beats simplicity.

4- Sex on the beach

This is a favorite cocktail among everyone due to its simple fruity taste. The orange, cranberry and vodka combination never ceases to be delicious and refreshing and is perfect for a picnic.

5- Strawberry Daiquiri

This delicious combination of strawberry and lime is always a favorite at parties. This will be a fantastic drink to enjoy at a picnic due to its thirst quenching qualities and easy to follow recipe.

4 Recovery Smoothies Every Gymnast Should be Taking

4 Recovery Smoothies Every Gymnast Should be Taking

Gymnastics is becoming an ever-growing sport due to how easy it is to take part in. You can practice gymnastics in classes or even through your own set up at home.  If you want to do the latter make sure you have the appropriate equipment, you can buy these mats for gymnastics at fit2bmom. It’s also important to have the right recovery after gymnastics, here is a list that we recommend.

1 – Green antioxidant smoothie

This is great to help with aches and pains after a long work out and gives you all the necessary greens that you need, all in a delicious smoothie. It included a lot of kale and nuts, finished off with some honey to make it sweet. This is also very calming on the stomach as has no acidic ingredients.

2- Berry protein smoothie

This will give you the much needed sugar that will boost you back into action after your hard work. Not only will it wake you up, but it’ll taste delicious as it is a combination of fresh summer berries. You can also use frozen berries when making it as that will be a nice cool down after working up a sweat.

3- Chocolate beetroot shake

This is a more indulgent shake as it includes chocolate. However, this does not make the milkshake unhealthy as there is only a small amount of chocolate, mixed with a lot of beetroot. Surprisingly, beetroot only encourages the chocolate taste while providing vital protein to return energy and calm adrenaline.  Meaning you can relax for the rest of the day.

4 – Protein smoothie

Protein is very important for your recovery after a work out and so this smoothie uses Greek yogurt in order to provide that. It also uses a mix of fresh fruit like mango which provides some much needed carbs. You can also use clementines which once again provides you with the necessary antioxidants which are really good for you and are a necessary part of your diet.
